Brunei To Debut Handbook On Energy Efficiency

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei's own "Handbook on Energy Management" this month will be used for the first time at a Promotion of Energy Efficiency and Conservation (Promeec) seminar organised by the Energy Division at the Prime Minister's Office.

Promeec has been gaining momentum recently after the Energy Division staged a similar seminar for major industries last month.

The three-day session this month, from November 16 to 18, will focus on energy management. Of particular note are the site visits, which will take place at selected venues throughout Brunei on the final day of the seminar.

The seminar will see the debut of Brunei's own energy management document, which has been developed in line with guidelines used in Japan.

"The Handbook on Energy Management" is still considered to be a "first draft", but is a critical aspect of the Sultanate's efforts in promoting energy efficiency and conservation to the public. Promeec was established in 2004 to develop an Mean Energy Management System.

Amongst its objectives is to develop an Asean policy framework for energy management. At the same time, it aims to provide support for energy efficiency and conservation initiatives through capacity building and promotion of energy efficiency and conservation within the region's private sector in the form of information and guidelines.

Currently, Brunei does not have energy efficiency and conservation training facilities or certified Energy Auditors and Energy Managers. However, this issue is being addressed through cooperation between the Energy Conservation Centre (EEC) of Japan and the Mean Centre for Energy. Experts from the ECC of Japan have visited Brunei, and Brunei will be looking for its own Energy Auditors to be trained in Japan. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
