A local man was brought to Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court On 16th June on 1 charge under the Excise Order 2006, for possessing cigarettes of various brands without a valid permit.
Ali bin Haji Hassan, aged 45, was found guilty for possessing 6 cartons and 121 packets of cigarettes of various brands at a house in the RPN Kampung Panchor Mengkubau area on 23rd January, as well as cash amounting to $317 BND. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine of $14,400 Brunei Dollars or 14 months imprisonment in default. All contrabands involved were seized and handed over to the government for further action.
