Muslims have been urged to reflect on the immense sacrifices and perseverance of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in spreading Islam, and to uphold the values of faith, patience and noble character in their daily lives.
The message was delivered in today’s Friday sermon, which reminded congregants that the blessings of faith and Islam are among the greatest gifts bestowed by Allah the Almighty and should be safeguarded through obedience, gratitude and piety.
The sermon highlighted that the Prophet’s mission was one of mercy to all mankind, citing Surah Al-Anbiya, Verse 107: “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.”
It recounted the hardships endured by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) during the early years of Islam, including persecution by the Quraysh, social and economic boycotts, insults and physical abuse while preaching the message of Islam in Makkah.
The sermon also reflected on the Year of Sorrow (Am al-Huzn), when the Prophet (pbuh) lost two of his greatest supporters – his wife Sayyidatina Khadijah and his uncle Abu Talib.
Despite these personal losses and mounting opposition, the Prophet (pbuh) remained steadfast in fulfilling his mission, placing his trust in Allah the Almighty and continuing to spread the message of Islam with patience and compassion.
The sermon further recalled the Prophet’s journey to Taif, where he was rejected and pelted with stones by its residents. Although the Angel offered to punish the people, the Prophet (pbuh) instead prayed for their guidance, demonstrating forgiveness and mercy even towards those who harmed him.
It also highlighted the challenges faced during the migration to Madinah and the battles fought in defence of Islam, describing the Prophet’s (pbuh) unwavering commitment and sacrifice in ensuring the religion reached future generations.
The sermon reminded Muslims that the peace and security enjoyed today are the result of the struggles and sacrifices made by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the early Muslim community.
Congregants were encouraged to express gratitude for the blessings of Islam by obeying Allah the Almighty’s commands, avoiding His prohibitions and practising Islamic teachings in all aspects of life.
The sermon also urged Muslims to emulate the Prophet’s exemplary character by displaying patience, compassion, respect and good morals in their dealings with others.
It concluded with a call for Muslims to remain steadfast in following the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah, while praying for the intercession of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in the Hereafter. –
