The 31st ASEAN Transport Ministers, ATM Meeting and Associated Meetings was held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar recently. The annual Meeting serves as a key platform for ASEAN Member States to review progress, realign priorities and advance collaborative initiatives that support safe, efficient and sustainable regional connectivity. Attending the meeting was Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications. Prior to the official opening of the 31st ATM, the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications joined the ASEAN Transport Ministers and Heads of Delegation in a courtesy call to His Excellency Nyo Saw, Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
The meeting was officiated by His Excellency Nyo Saw, Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and subsequently chaired by His Excellency Mya Tun Oo, Union Minister for Transport and Communications of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, in his capacity as Chairman of the ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting for 2025. The Meeting endorsed and formally adopted the recommendations, highlighting decarbonisation and environmental protection commitments, as well as integrating digital solution and harmonisation efforts in the transport sector. The 31st ATM also convened engagements with ASEAN Dialogue Partners, namely China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, reaffirming long-term cooperation and endorsing several deliverable and work plans.
On the side-lines of the meeting, the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications also held a courtesy call with His Excellency Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, the Secretary-General of ASEAN. The discussion reaffirmed the shared commitment to advancing wider ASEAN transport cooperation, including Brunei Darussalam's leadership in strengthening ASEAN–United Kingdom air transport engagement. The 31st ATM was preceded by the 60th ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting and Associated Meetings, held from 17th to 19th November 2025. Joining Brunei Darussalam's delegation was His Excellency Retired Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin Matseruddin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
