Price Control Act

13 offences were detected under the Price Control Act and its regulations during daily inspections by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, DEPS, Ministry of Finance and Economy.

 

The results of the inspection through the Department of Consumer Affairs found several common errors committed by traders, including selling price-controlled goods, namely cooking oil and formula milk powder, above the maximum set price, and not displaying price tags on some items sold in business premises or displaying misleading price tags.

 

Mahamas Sendirian Berhad AND De Rimba Department Store were each compounded BND $700 for the offence of exceeding the maximum price and payment set by the price controller AND offences relating to the display of price tags. B Sulaiha Sendirian Berhad AND Intelek Enterprise were each fined BND $500 for the offence of exceeding the maximum price and payment set by the price controller and Guardian Health AND Beauty Sendirian Berhad was also fined BND $500 for offences relating to the display of price tags.

 

Traders were reminded to practice ethical business by not selling price-controlled goods above the maximum price set and displaying price tags clearly and correctly and not misleading consumers. Failure to comply with the Price Control Act and the regulations may be imposed with a maximum fine of BND $20,000 and imprisonment for 5 years for repeat offenses.
