ASEAN Dengue Day 2026 Celebrations

A sustainable integrated approach, supported by proactive dengue surveillance, comprehensive mosquito vector management, and active engagement of all stakeholders including the community, aside from rapid and effective responses, are key elements in strengthening effective and sustainable management, prevention and control of dengue disease across ASEAN Member States. In a message in conjunction with ASEAN Dengue Day 2026 Celebration, the Minister of Health stressed that Dengue continues to be a major burden in terms of morbidity and mortality globally. Over the past two decades, dengue incidence has increased and has become a significant public health challenge worldwide.

According to Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, in Brunei Darussalam, dengue is an endemic disease. The infection rate often changes from year to year and shows a trend of increasing cases every few years. The average number of dengue cases in the past ten years is 54 cases per year, while the highest number of cases is 119 cases recorded in 2019, followed by 100 cases in 2024.

The Ministry of Health will continue to strengthen efforts to monitor and control mosquito-borne diseases. This includes improving the preparedness of the health system and monitoring mosquito-borne diseases and mosquito vectors, increasing public awareness at all ages including students and adults, as well as expanding cooperation with various agencies and the public in efforts to control dengue infection. Prevention is an important foundation in reducing the risk of dengue infection.

This year, the ASEAN Dengue Day Celebration carries the theme “ASEAN United: Zero Dengue Deaths – A Future We Build Together by 2030". It focuses on raising awareness and strengthening cooperation and concerted action by all parties. The celebration is a joint effort by ASEAN countries to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of addressing the burden of dengue disease with public cooperation, strengthening capacity, and encouraging collective action by stakeholders to reduce dengue infection.
