The Islamic New Year is an important Islamic occasion that marks a significant historical event, commemorating the migration (Hijrah) of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam from Makkah to Madinah in the year 622 Masihi. In addition, Hijrah New Year, or 1st Muharram, is one of the significant Islamic Major Events, which is honoured and holds its own virtues and merits, like the other months of the Hijrah calendar.
Hijrah is not merely the act of moving from one place to another, but also a process of self-transformation from a less desirable state to a better one in seeking the pleasure of Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala. In the current context, hijrah can be interpreted in various ways.
Hijrah is a continuous journey of transformation from weakness to strength, from ignorance to knowledge, and from self-interest to collective responsibility. Let us all strive together to make a hijrah towards the progress of our nation, religion, and country, guided by the guidance and mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala.
