‘This honour renews my resolve to serve with greater dedication’

Among the 22 recipients of the state decorations conferred by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, during the investiture ceremony on Wednesday were two specialists from Malaysia’s National Heart Institute (IJN).

One of the specialists, Chief Executive Officer and Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dato Seri Laila Jasa Dato’ Sri Dr Mohamed Ezani bin Mohd Taib said, “This honour renews my resolve to continue serving with even greater dedication.” He added, “I am deeply humbled and sincerely grateful for the great honour bestowed upon me by His Majesty. This recognition means a great deal not only to me personally, but also to the IJN.”

He said the award reflects IJN’s commitment to excellence in cardiac care and its contribution to the health and well-being of the nation.

He also conveyed his highest appreciation to His Majesty, offering prayers for His Majesty’s continued good health, long life, wisdom and strength to continue leading Brunei Darussalam, while praying for blessings and protection upon the royal family.

Meanwhile, Head of the Cardiology Department and Consultant Cardiologist Dato Seri Laila Jasa Dato’ Sri Dr Azmee bin Mohd Ghazi said, “It is an immense privilege to receive this prestigious award on His Majesty’s 80th birthday. Being entrusted with His Majesty’s care, and now receiving this recognition from His Majesty’s own hands, is a moment I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

The cardiologist said he had never imagined that his profession would one day lead him to care for His Majesty, describing the honour as a humbling experience that reflects not only his personal achievement but also the professional responsibility carried by dedicated doctors beyond the boundaries of hospitals and nations.

He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty for the meaningful recognition and prayed for His Majesty’s continued good health, wisdom and a long, blessed reign over Brunei Darussalam. – Lyna Mohamad
