Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam Berhad (BIBD) reaffirmed its role as Brunei Darussalam’s trusted partner in nation building at its Annual General Meeting 2026 (AGM), highlighting sustained financial resilience, strategic transformation and meaningful contributions towards the nation’s economic and social development.
The AGM was chaired by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Manpower, Minister of Home Affairs, and Chairman of the BIBD Board of Directors, and attended by members of the Board of Directors, Shariah Advisory Body, management team and shareholders.
During the AGM, it was highlighted that in 2025, the BIBD Group recorded a net profit of B$121.6 million, reflecting the strength of its business model, disciplined execution and commitment to deliver sustainable value to its stakeholders. The BIBD Group also maintained its A- (Stable) credit rating from S&P Global Ratings, which it has retained since 2015, underscoring its financial resilience, sound governance, strong capital position and prudent risk management.
The BIBD Group’s balance sheet remained robust, reinforcing its position as a trusted financial partner and a key contributor to the nation’s economic development. The total assets increased to B$11.39 billion, while customer deposits grew to B$8.62 billion, reflecting the continued confidence placed in the BIBD Group by its customers and stakeholders. Supported by prudent governance and risk management practices, BIBD Group remains well-positioned to support sustainable growth across the economy. Guided by the principles of Maqasid Syariah and aligned with the aspirations of Wawasan Brunei 2035, BIBD remains focused on creating long-term value for its shareholders, customers, communities and the nation. Anchored by its philosophy of being “Bruneian at Heart”, the Bank continues to pursue growth that is responsible, inclusive and sustainable while contributing to the long-term prosperity of Brunei Darussalam.
Commenting on the Bank’s performance and outlook, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Chairman of the BIBD Board of Directors, said: “Our performance reflects the trust that customers, shareholders and stakeholders continue to place in BIBD. Guided by Maqasid Syariah and aligned with Wawasan Brunei 2035, we remain focused on creating sustainable value while supporting the nation’s economic and social development.”
“While we are encouraged by the progress achieved, we recognised that the environment in which we operate is becoming increasingly dynamic and complex. Technological disruption, evolving customer expectations, economic uncertainty and sustainability considerations require us to continuously adapt and strengthen our capabilities. As an Islamic financial institution, we measure success not only through financial performance, but also through the positive impact we create for our customers, communities and the nation. Guided by our values, we remain committed to responsible growth, strong governance and meaningful contribution, ensuring that BIBD continues to serve Brunei Darussalam with integrity, humility and purpose.”
As the financial services landscape continues to evolve, BIBD remains focused on accelerating its digital transformation journey through strategic investments in technology, innovation and automation to enhance customer experience, operational resilience and service delivery.
Through initiatives such as USMS bill payments and OTP delivery via WhatsApp, BIBD has simplified customer journeys, expanded accessibility and enhanced convenience across its services.
BIBD also strengthened its innovation agenda through automation initiatives that are estimated to generate over 4,600 hours of annual time savings, while advancing business-led automation projects and evaluating emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning and Data Science to improve operational efficiency and customer value.
BIBD recognizes that innovation begins with its people and continues to invest in developing local talent and strengthening internal capabilities to drive sustainable growth and transformation. A key milestone during the year was the successful organisation of a Bank-wide Hackathon, which certified 25 Citizen Developers and further strengthened digital capabilities across the organisation.
During the year, BIBD enhanced its cyber resilience through the successful implementation of an in-house Security Operations Centre (SOC) and attained ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for its Information Security Management System. BIBD also supported the broader cybersecurity ecosystem as a key supporter of the Brunei Cybersecurity Conference 2025, reinforcing its commitment to industry collaboration and cybersecurity excellence.
BIBD continues to play a strategic role in supporting Brunei Darussalam’s economic development by facilitating investments, mobilizing capital and fostering collaboration across industries.
Through partnerships with businesses, institutions and stakeholders, BIBD contributes to initiatives that stimulate growth, strengthen competitiveness and enhance economic resilience, supporting a more dynamic and diversified economy in line with Wawasan Brunei 2035.
Another key milestone during the year was the successful arrangement of a USD100 million Syndicated Commodity Murabaha Facility for Simpor Hibiscus Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hibiscus Petroleum. The financing demonstrates BIBD’s capability to structure and facilitate large-scale Shariah-compliant financing solutions that support strategic investments and business growth.
Beyond financing, BIBD continues to expand access to value-based investment opportunities through its Islamic wealth management offerings. During the year, the Bank strengthened its wealth management proposition with the launch of the Lion-BIBDS Islamic Enhanced Liquidity Fund in partnership with Lion Global Investors, providing customers with professionally managed, Shariah-compliant investment solutions designed to support their long-term financial goals.
BIBD continues to strengthen the nation’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, recognizing the critical role of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in economic diversification and employment creation.
Through entrepreneurship and community development initiatives, the BIBD provides platforms that enable local businesses to grow, enhance competitiveness and access broader market opportunities. These efforts support business sustainability, generate economic opportunities and contribute to the development of a more resilient and inclusive economy.
BIBD remains committed to fostering inclusive development and strengthening community resilience through programmes that create meaningful opportunities for vulnerable and underserved groups. Through flagship initiatives such as BIBD ALAF, BIBD SEED, Projek Teduh and Projek TUNAS, the Bank continues to support education, entrepreneurship, youth empowerment and community well-being, contributing to lasting social and economic progress across the nation.
BIBD also works closely with national stakeholders through initiatives such as the Empowerment and Rehabilitation Development Programme under the Prisons Department, Ministry of Home Affairs, and the ASNAF Skills Centre under the Department of Zakat, Waqaf and Baitulmal (JUZWAB), Ministry of Religious Affairs. These initiatives help equip participants with practical skills, create economic opportunities and promote long-term self-sufficiency. These initiatives reflect BIBD’s belief that sustainable progress is achieved when individuals and communities are empowered to realize their full potential and participate meaningfully in society.
In line with the principles of Maqasid Shariah and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), BIBD continues to embed sustainability across its strategy, operations and decision-making processes.
As part of its sustainability agenda, BIBD continued its tree-planting initiative aimed at preserving and greening the nation’s environment, while its Coral Reef Conservation Initiative promoted greater awareness of sustainable marine ecosystems and the preservation of marine resources for future generations.
The Bank’s sustainability initiatives encompass environmental conservation, responsible business practices and digitalization efforts designed to create long-term positive outcomes for society, the economy and the environment.
BIBD also continued to expand its digital-first approach through online forms, digital solutions and streamlined internal processes that improve operational efficiency while reducing paper consumption and environmental impact.
Beyond its sustainability efforts, the Bank actively represented Brunei Darussalam at key international platforms, including the International Conference on Islamic Finance and Sustainability (ICIFS) 2025, the ASEAN Forum on the Future of Finance held in Bandar Seri Begawan, and the International Islamic Economics and Finance Conference for Sustainable Development hosted at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
