Citizens and residents from all walks of life in Tutong District gathered to meet and greet His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, during a get-together ceremony held on Wednesday in conjunction with His Majesty’s 80th birthday celebration.
Tutong District was honoured as the first district to host the get-together ceremony with His Majesty as part of the nationwide celebrations.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.
Upon arrival at the field of the Community Hall Complex, His Majesty and members of the Royal Family were greeted by Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Manpower and Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, who is Co-Chairman of the National Committee for His Majesty’s 80th Birthday Celebration.
The ceremony featured a performance themed “Raja Bijaksana Inspirasi Rakyat”, highlighting His Majesty’s wise and visionary leadership in guiding the nation towards lasting peace, prosperity and well-being.
The theme reflected His Majesty’s commitment to the welfare of the people and his role as an inspiration for citizens and residents in contributing towards the aspirations of a progressive Brunei Darussalam in line with Wawasan Brunei 2035.
Following the national anthem, His Majesty and members of the Royal Family witnessed a colourful cultural performance based on the concept of “Memartabatkan keindahan seni warisan dan tradisi Melayu sebagai lambang jati diri serta budaya bangsa”.
The 18-minute performance, involving 384 performers across three segments, showcased the importance of preserving Malay heritage and traditions while symbolising unity, loyalty to the Monarchy and appreciation for the nation’s cultural identity.
After the performance, His Majesty and the Royal Family met with the performers before touring the exhibitions and interacting with members of the public from Tutong District. – James Kon
