The loud chants of “Daulat Kebawah Duli Tuan Patik!” and Happy Birthday wishes from thousands of Belait District citizens and residents filled the air as the get-together ceremony with citizens and residents in the district yesterday at the Municipal Field, Kuala Belait, in celebration of the 80th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, Minister of Foreign Affairs; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.
Upon arrival, His Majesty and the Royal Family were welcomed by Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar as Co-Advisor of the National Committee for the celebrations, and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Manpower and Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, who also serves as co-chairperson of the National Committee for the celebration.
Cabinet ministers and senior officials were also present during the celebration in the Belait District.
This year’s get-together ceremony in the Belait District was themed around ‘Raja Terbilang, Rakyat Gemilang’ (A Distinguished Monarch, An Outstanding People), featuring 435 performers comprising youth and students from across the district delivering a display of unity and harmony under the guidance of His Majesty. Following the performance, the celebration continued as His Majesty and the Royal Family toured the exhibitions set up by various agencies, from the Mukim and Village Consultative Councils to associations, groups, local companies, the British Forces Brunei, and more.
During the visit to each booth set up by the agencies and groups, various pesambah and cake-cutting ceremonies were held to commemorate the occasion. Thousands of residents of the district, were able to personally greet His Majesty and members of the Royal Family as they made their way throughout the venue. His Majesty and members of the Royal Family later departed to the Dewan Santap for a luncheon concluding the celebration in the Belait District.
