Prophet’s life offers timeless guidance

The Sirah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is more than a historical account, offering enduring guidance for navigating the challenges of modern life.

This was highlighted by Director of the Centre for Training and Competency Enhancement at Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) Pengiran Siti Katijah binti Pengiran Sulaiman during the 40th Special Women’s Munajat Night last Saturday.

In her talk titled “From Sirah to Life: Discovering the Wisdom of the Prophet Muhammad’s Journey in Today’s Life”, she shared two important lessons from the life of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

The first was that trials form a natural part of human life. The Prophet (pbuh) experienced loss, rejection, humiliation and sorrow, demonstrating that feelings such as sadness, fear, anger and anxiety are natural human responses.

What matters, she said, is how these emotions are managed through faith, patience, prayer, reliance on Allah the Almighty and support from those around us.

The second lesson centred on good manners and noble character as foundations for success. The honesty and trustworthiness of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), which earned him the title Al-Amin, and his conduct towards those who opposed or mistreated him showed that a person’s character need not be dictated by the actions of others.

Instead, individuals have the ability to choose how they respond and conduct themselves.

Pengiran Siti Katijah said genuine success should not be measured solely by achievements, status, career or wealth, but also by the values, character and positive contributions a person leaves behind.

She added that while circumstances and challenges may change over time, the fundamental nature of humanity remains largely the same.

Maulidur Rasul, she said, should therefore be viewed not only as a commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), but also as an opportunity to reflect on his life and apply its lessons to present-day circumstances.

The programme was organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs as part of the 243rd Malam Munajat and featured members of the Firqah Ulfatunnisa and Ar-Rumaysa’ groups under the Islamic Da’wah Centre’s Youth Religious Programme.

Muslim women and congregants from several mosques nationwide also participated, alongside female personnel from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and individuals joining virtually from their homes.

The programme began with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Firqah Ulfatunnisa Group Head Dayang Nur Syafiqah binti Nasruddin.

Ar-Rumaysa’ Group member Dayang Nurul Afiqah binti Lamit then led the communal recitation of Surah Al-Waqiah, while fellow group member Dayang Nur Tajwiida Insyirah binti Haji Isa recited the Doa Munajat.

Following the religious talk, participants recited Selawat Tafrijiyyah, led by Firqah Ulfatunnisa Group member Dayang Fatin Nurhanani binti Abdullah Mohdar.

The programme concluded with the recitation of Doa Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam, led by Ar-Rumaysa’ Group Manager Dayangku Lutfiatul Mahfuzah binti Pengiran Anak Mohd Yusuf.

The Malam Munajat programme seeks to encourage Muslims to strengthen their relationship with Allah the Almighty through spiritual practices, seeking forgiveness and reciting and reflecting on Al-Quran.

It also provides an avenue for collective prayers for Brunei Darussalam, its citizens and residents to remain protected from calamities and infectious diseases. – Lyna Mohamad
