The Ministry of Defence (MinDef) yesterday held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony in conjunction with the 80th Birthday Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, for the year 1448 Hijrah / 2026, simultaneously at all suraus across Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) camps and garrisons, including Pulau Baru-Baru Mosque, with the main ceremony at Surau Al-Fa’izun, Berakas Garrison.
Coordinating Minister for National Security, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof was present at Surau Al-Fa’izun.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi.
It proceeded with the recitation of selected surahs from Al-Quran, Takhtim, Tahlil and Doa Khatam Al-Quran by Muhd Abdussalam bin Haji Jahari from the RBAF Religious Directorate (JAMA’AT). Mohd Rif’at Atiyah bin Anwari from JAMA’AT delivered a tazkirah titled ‘Pesambah untuk Raja’.
Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi also presented mementos to the Khatam Al-Quran participants.
The Khatam Al-Quran ceremony serves as a special pesambah to His Majesty, expressing gratitude and offering prayers to Allah the Almighty for His Majesty to continue to be blessed with longevity, good health, and an enduring reign in leading Brunei Darussalam. Commander of the RBAF Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan, along with members of the Defence Executive Committee and the RBAF Executive Committee, as well as officers and personnel of the MinDef were also in attendance.
Special guests, including Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Haji Daud bin Jihan, Brunei-Muara District Officer Pengiran Muhd Ameer Mubarak bin Pengiran Haji Hashim, as well as Penghulu of Mukim Berakas ‘A’ and Acting Village Head of Skim Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati Lambak Kiri were also present. – James Kon
