Forty-eight participants comprising youth aged 15 to 27 completed a three-day and two-night camping excursion as part of the Belia UniFour Youth Programme ‘Jom Camping’ 2026, with a closing ceremony held yesterday.

Held at the premises of the Belait District Youth and Sports Department’s building along Jalan Maulana since Tuesday, the programme was organised by the Youth and Sports Department, through its Belait District Branch as the host, in collaboration with the Belait District Scouts Association. It was held in conjunction with the 21st National Youth Day Celebration 2026.

Head of the Belait District’s Youth and Sports Department Norulhoda binti Muhammad Iskandar said, “The programme was closely guided by scout members from the Belait District Scout Association, who provided their experience and expertise in conducting activities including basic camping skills, campcraft, rope work, survival skills, physical challenges and outdoor activities.”

She added that, alongside the camping experience, participants were also exposed to current social issues such as cybercrime, bullying and drug abuse, through the involvement of the Royal Brunei Police Force and the Narcotics Control Bureau, as well as spiritual and character-building activities held in collaboration with the Islamic Da’wah Centre.

“The involvement of government agencies, associations and relevant strategic partners reflects a whole-of-nation approach, with each party contributing its respective expertise towards developing a more comprehensive youth development ecosystem. This effort also supports the aspirations of Brunei Vision 2035 to produce a quality, skilled and morally upright generation of young people.”

She also took the opportunity to congratulate the participating youth, noting that while the closing ceremony marks the end of the camp, it should not mark the end of their personal growth, lifelong skills, and friendships built over the course of the camp.

“After three days of camping together, do not just take home your bags and dirty clothes. Take with you the experiences, new friendships and confidence that you are capable of achieving more than you thought you could. Keep the memories, keep the friendships, and most importantly, keep growing.”

One of the youth representatives, Norhazeq Wafiee Anak Baki, took the opportunity to recall the various activities that he had participated in, and how they shaped his mindset in developing survival and lifelong skills.

Similarly, Khairul Barizah Habriyahana binti Roslin, another participating youth, said, “I realised that I was actually having fun and enjoying all the activities that had been given to us. We introduced ourselves to each other during the first day, and we learned how to survive with minimum supplies. And finally, the last day had come. I genuinely don’t know how to feel, excited to finally sleep in my bed, but also I will miss the memories all of us created.”

Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Hajah Noridah binti Abdul Hamid, the guest of honour, presented participation certificates. The ceremony continued with a tour of the campsite.
