Weather conditions across Brunei Darussalam are forecast to remain hot and dry with minimal rainfall activity through the first week of September 2026, alongside persisting hazy conditions caused by transboundary haze, according to a press statement by the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department.
Maximum daily temperatures are expected to range between 33°C and 36°C.
The country is currently experiencing the Southwest Monsoon, which typically persists until the end of September. During this period, atmospheric conditions over the Sultanate generally tend to be more stable, resulting in relatively hot and dry weather with fewer occurrences of showers and thunderstorms.
No significant rainfall has been recorded at the Meteorological Observation Station at the Brunei International Airport since August 6, 2026.
To date, total rainfall recorded for August stands at 127.3 millimetres (mm), which is approximately 45 per cent lower than the normal monthly average of 231.5mm.
The Sultanate experienced 20 days of excessive hot weather from August 8-27, 2026.
During this period, several BDMD Automatic Weather Stations recorded daily maximum temperatures of at least 36.0 degrees Celsius (°C), led by Labi at 38.2°C and Lakiun at 37.1°C on August 21, 2026, Anggerek Desa at 37.5°C on August 14, 2026, and Kuala Belait at 36.7°C on August 13, 2026. On August 21, 2026, Bandar Seri Begawan, Sinaut, and Lumapas each recorded 36.9°C, while Pekan Bangar reached 36.8°C and Benutan recorded 36.4°C.
As of August 27, 2026, three areas recorded Excessive Hot Weather (EHW), namely Anggerek Desa, Brunei International Airport, and Lakiun.
Meanwhile, seven areas recorded Unusual Hot Weather (UHW), comprising Bandar Seri Begawan, Benutan, Kuala Belait, Labi, Lumapas, Pekan Bangar, and Sinaut.
On Sunday, the Meteorological Observation Station at the Brunei International Airport reported horizontal visibility reduced to 5,000 metres due to transboundary haze.
Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and take precautions regarding the prevailing hot and dry conditions.
