Brunei Darussalam and Zhejiang Province of China strengthened exchanges and cooperation in sustainable agriculture and rural development through the launch of the international training programme on ‘China’s Green Rural Revival Program: Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Economy’ yesterday.
The international training programme centres on the practical experience of Zhejiang’s Green Rural Revival Program. Launched in Zhejiang in June 2003, the programme began with the improvement of rural living environments and has gradually expanded to cover sustainable rural economic growth, rural governance and the betterment of rural residents’ well-being.
Over more than two decades of implementation, Zhejiang has built extensive expertise in advancing coordinated urban-rural development and sustainable rural progress, offering valuable references for international exchange and collaboration. In September 2018, Zhejiang’s Green Rural Revival Program was awarded the United Nations’ highest environmental honour, the Champions of the Earth Award, in recognition of its outstanding achievements in rural sustainable development.
Brunei Darussalam is currently advancing its national vision, Brunei Vision 2035, with a strong focus on economic diversification and sustainable growth. The country also attaches great importance to food security and the pursuit of more efficient, sustainable agricultural development.
Against this backdrop, Zhejiang’s hands-on experience in green rural revitalisation and sustainable agriculture provides insights for Brunei’s development priorities.
Scheduled to take place in Zhejiang this September, the international training programme on sustainable agriculture and rural economy under China’s Green Rural Revival Program will host around 15 Bruneian professionals from the agriculture and rural development sectors for a 10-day study and exchange programme. Participants will gain first-hand knowledge of Zhejiang’s real-world practices in sustainable agriculture and rural economic advancement.
The training project will foster deeper bilateral engagement between Brunei and Zhejiang, consolidate friendship and mutual understanding between Brunei and China, and jointly advance exchanges and collaboration across sustainable agriculture, rural development and broader economic cooperation. Ambassador-designate of China to Brunei Darussalam Chen Shaochun and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Mohammad Harris bin Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim were in attendance.
