Brunei Darussalam became the host of the 11th BIMP-EAGA Socio-Cultural and Education Cluster Meeting for two days until yesterday. The meeting served as a platform to discuss developments and the future direction of regional cooperation, particularly in the areas of socio-cultural affairs, education, youth and sports, as well as human resource development.
The meeting commenced with a welcoming address by Brunei Darussalam as the host, delivered by Acting Director of the Youth and Sports Development Division Siti Hadinawati binti Haji Abdul Majid, who also serves as Head of the BIMP-EAGA Socio-Cultural and Education Cluster for Brunei Darussalam. The meeting was followed by a video presentation on Visit Brunei Year 2027.
On the first day, delegates took part in plenary sessions and working group meetings focusing on the progress of implementation and the participation of member countries in various activities, projects and initiatives under the BIMP-EAGA Socio-Cultural and Education Cluster.
Among the matters discussed were projects and initiatives under the Socio-Cultural Development Working Group (SCD WG), Human Resource Development Working Group (HRD WG), and Youth and Sports Development Working Group (YSD WG).
The meeting also discussed joint initiatives with BIMP-EAGA development partners, as well as a presentation on BIMP-EAGA Vision 2035 by the Asian Development Bank.
The meeting continued on the second day with presentations of reports from the three working groups, followed by the adoption of the report of the 11th BIMP-EAGA Socio-Cultural and Education Cluster Meeting.
The annual meeting, held in a hybrid format, brought together delegates from the member countries of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA). It also included representatives from the BIMP-EAGA Facilitation Centre (BIMP-EAGA FC) and the Chair of the BIMP-EAGA Business Council.
An official dinner was also held, featuring a cultural performance showcasing the uniqueness and rich cultural heritage of Brunei Darussalam.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman was the guest of honour.
The hosting of the meeting reflects Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to regional cooperation.
The country’s participation contributes to the sharing of best practices, strengthening mutual understanding among regional communities, and developing a competitive and globally minded human capital in line with the goals of Brunei Vision 2035.
