Community giving, new branch opening marks 10th anniversary

Poomaan Group of Companies’ 10th anniversary celebration was marked not only with the opening of its latest branch in Kilanas Ban 1 on Sunday, but also by giving back to underprivileged families in the local community, in the form of basic necessities and cash assistance.

The milestone was commemorated with a cake-cutting and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new store premises, alongside the presentation of contributions to families in need.

Village Head of Kampong Kilanas Awang Haji Ameerolbahrynee bin Haji Abdul Hamid was the guest of honour.

Poomaan Group Director Haji Md Haja Najmuddin bin Haji Md Maideen said the opening of the sixth branch was not only a milestone for the company, but also an opportunity to strengthen its contribution to the local community.

“Over the past 10 years, Poomaan Group has grown together with the communities we serve. For us, growth is not only about opening more branches. It is also about creating employment opportunities, providing affordable and quality products, and giving back to society,” he said.

The group currently employs around 100 people, including 40 local workers, with further employment opportunities expected as the company continues to expand its operations.

Haji Md Haja Najmuddin said local employment remained an important part of Poomaan’s contribution to the country.

“We are proud to have 40 local employees as part of our workforce. We believe businesses have an important role to play in creating opportunities for Bruneians, particularly by providing jobs where people can gain experience, develop their skills and contribute to the economy,” he said.

He added that giving back to the community had been an important part of the group’s journey over the past decade.

“Giving back to the community has always been important to us. We have been carrying out such initiatives over the years because we believe that when a business succeeds, it should also share its success with the community,” he said.

The director expressed hope that the contribution to underprivileged residents of Kampong Kilanas would provide meaningful assistance to the recipients while strengthening the relationship between Poomaan Group and the local community.

He also expressed appreciation to the group’s customers, employees, business partners and community leaders for their continued support.

Haji Md Haja Najmuddin also acknowledged the contributions of fellow Directors Hajah Muthu Muhammad Nachiar, NS Tajudeen Ahamed, Abu Taher, A Haja Maideen and NS Shameem Ahamed, whose support has contributed to the group’s continued development.

With the opening of its sixth branch, Poomaan Group aims to build on its decade of operations by continuing to provide quality products at affordable prices, create further employment opportunities and strengthen its community initiatives.

The group remains committed to growing alongside the communities it serves and contributing positively to the economic and social development of Brunei Darussalam. – LYNA MOHAMAD
