Some 11 members of Brunei Darussalam’s contingent, comprising one karate athlete, five wushu athletes and five contingent officials, including the Chef de Mission, Medical Officer and coaches, left the Sultanate on Tuesday to compete in the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan 2026.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman was present at the Brunei International Airport to bid farewell to the contingent and offered words of advice and encouragement.
The send-off ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by words of advice and encouragement to the Brunei Darussalam contingent, and concluded with a group photograph.
First Secretary and representative of the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam Saito Keiko; senior officials from the Department of Youth and Sports; representatives from the Brunei Darussalam Karate Federation and the Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation; as well as the athletes’ family members were also present.
Wushu athlete Mohammad Adi Salihin bin Roslan, who has won four consecutive gold medals for the country across four SEA Games, in an interview said, “As a Brunei national wushu athlete, I will do my best for the country. We are expecting very tough competition as we will compete with the best athletes from Asia.”
Brunei’s karate athlete Awangku Ahmad Munib Aiman bin Pengiran Haji Md Hasimudin will begin his campaign competing in the men’s kumite-55 kilogramme event on September 20, 2026 at Toyohashi Gymnasium.
Meanwhile, Brunei’s wushu athletes will begin their campaign at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall, competing in the NanQuan, NanGun, TaijiQuan, TaijiJian and ChangQuan events. – JAMES KON
