Twenty-seven police personnel took part in the Cybercrime Investigation Course 2026 at the Civil Service Institute from September 21 to 24, 2026.
Conducted by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) in collaboration with the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the course is a follow-up from the bilateral meeting between the RBPF and SPF in Singapore on September 1, 2026. The course conducted by four SPF instructors aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and practical skills in cybercrime investigations, online scams and the handling of digital evidence.
Throughout the course, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of cybercrime investigation, including legislation, methods of tracing online activities through websites, email and social media, as well as threats involving malware, ransomware and cryptocurrency-related crimes.
The participants also learned investigative techniques for various types of online scams, including romance scams, investment and loan scams, social media impersonation scams and the use of mule accounts.
The participants were also trained in the handling and preservation of digital evidence at crime scenes, from the search and seizure stage through to the documentation of exhibits. The knowledge gained was applied through practical exercises and scenario-based group training.
Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Department Assistant Commissioner of Police Haji Azree bin Haji Abd Manaf officiated the closing ceremony at the Officers’ Mess Banquet Hall.
As part of the ceremony, a briefing ‘Singapore’s Approach to Managing Fraud and Cybercrime Cases’ was delivered by Head of the Cyber Training Branch, Cyber Command Superintendent of Police Ong Zhi Xian, and Staff Officer (Investigation Policy), Cyber Policy Division, Criminal Investigation Department, SPF Deputy Superintendent of Police Brandon Man.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to the participants.
