‘Employees need to foster culture built on trust, accountability’

Employees need to remain aligned to shared values and aspirations, while fostering a culture built on trust, accountability and collaboration, said Interim Acting Managing Director of BIBD At-Tamwil and Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Haji Shamri bin Haji Mahali.

He said this during BIBD At-Tamwil’s inaugural Townhall yesterday, themed ‘Amanah & Unity’, which brought together approximately 160 personnel.

He highlighted the importance of amanah and unity in strengthening organisational culture and guiding the organisation’s continued development.

Haji Shamri also underscored the importance of translating these principles into everyday actions, recognising that employee engagement, strong teamwork and a customer-centric mindset are fundamental to delivering sustainable success and meaningful outcomes for customers and stakeholders.

The Townhall, he said, is an opportunity to reconnect, strengthen relationships and reaffirm the values that unite them, adding that their greatest strength has always been their people, whose dedication, resilience and shared commitment have shaped At-Tamwil’s journey through both opportunities and challenges.

“As we navigate a period of transition and evolving expectations, it is more important than ever that we remain connected, support one another and move forward together with a common purpose.”

Ultimately, he added, their customers do not see organisational structures or departments; they experience At-Tamwil through every interaction and the trust customers place in them is built through the service, care and professionalism they demonstrate each day and the experience they create for their customers starts with them.

In closing, he called on employees to continue upholding the principles of amanah and unity in their daily responsibilities, emphasising the importance of maintaining the trust placed in the organisation while remaining committed to delivering meaningful outcomes for customers, stakeholders and the wider community.

“Growth remains important, but sustainable growth is even more important. This means exercising sound judgement, maintaining strong governance and regulatory compliance, and ensuring every decision reflects the trust placed in us by our customers, shareholders, regulators and one another. Regardless of title, department or function, every role matters and every interaction counts.”

Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, BIBD Haji Mohammad Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah, the guest of honour, in his keynote address encouraged employees to remain forward-looking and responsive to changing expectations, while staying anchored to the values, culture and purpose that continue to guide the organisation’s growth and long-term success.

“Every individual has a role to play in supporting the aspirations of BIBD. Organisational alignment means understanding where we are heading, how we can contribute meaningfully towards that direction. As expectations continue to evolve, we must remain adaptable while staying grounded in the values that define us. Strong collaboration and a shared commitment to serving our customers will remain essential to our continued progress.”

He added that by working closely with our leaders and one another, opportunities to learn from different perspectives are created, identify best solutions identified and better outcomes for customers and stakeholders are achieved.

“Insya Allah, when our intentions are guided by the betterment of the ummah and the greater good, our efforts will attract Barakah and Rahmah from Allah the Almighty, bringing greater benefit and lasting value to those we serve.”

The Townhall also featured a RISE presentation delivered by Head of Service Quality Division, BIBD Hajah Rohani binti Haji Salleh focusing on service excellence and the importance of continuously elevating customer experiences.

The session reinforced that exceptional service is not defined solely by processes and standards, but by the professionalism, empathy, responsiveness and care demonstrated in every customer interaction.

Employees were reminded that every engagement contributes towards building customer confidence, trust and loyalty, reinforcing BIBD At-Tamwil’s commitment to deliver consistent, responsible and customer-centric experiences.
