Around 400 students and their family members attended Kumon Diligent’s 11th Advanced Students Award Weekend yesterday.
The annual event celebrates students who have progressed to advanced levels of the Kumon programme with some working on topics to five years beyond their age-equivalent level.
This year, 15 students were recognised with completer plaques, including Awangku Md Eljaz, Ryan Lim, Aleesya Rane, Awangku Md Ziyad, Suzanne Wong, Jerrick Louis, Vernice Yeo, Md Irsyad, Masira Siddiqua, Aiden Tan, Syafiyah Loo, Gordon Liew, Izz Anwar, Matthias Narcis and Ayesha Zainuri.
Meanwhile, around 200 students ranging from ages three to 18, received trophies and medals in recognition of the progress and commitment in their studies.
Chief Instructor Caley Lim shared her goal for more students to experience the benefits of advanced study through the Kumon programme. Having followed her students over the past decades, she has seen how the completers have grown not only academically but also in their confidence, independence and ability to set and work towards their own goals.
She said, “Every completer has their own journey and what makes this milestone special is seeing how much they have grown along the way. They have learnt to keep going even when the work is challenging and that is something they will carry with them well beyond Kumon.” – James Kon
