Framework supports sustainable, inclusive development

President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Dr Muhammad Al-Jasser, during a press conference on Tuesday, reaffirmed that the launched Country Engagement Framework (CEF) between the IsDB Group and Brunei Darussalam is closely aligned with Brunei Vision 2035, the Twelfth National Development Plan, and the IsDB Group’s 10-Year Strategic Framework 2026-2035, providing a strong common foundation for pursuing sustainable, inclusive and resilient development.

The first CEF between the IsDB Group and Brunei Darussalam was launched on Monday morning at the Ministry of Finance. The president of the IsDB described the launch as an important milestone in a longstanding partnership. The first CEF provides a more structured foundation for cooperation.

He added, “As a founding member country of IsDB, Brunei Darussalam has been a valued partner for many decades. The CEF builds on that foundation and opens a new chapter, drawing on Brunei Darussalam’s strengths and the broader capabilities of the IsDB Group.”

He also extended his appreciation to Minister of Finance II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah and the Ministry of Finance for their leadership, commitment and close cooperation.

He said, “The CEF reflects our shared commitment to advancing Brunei Darussalam’s national development aspirations through practical cooperation that delivers tangible results.”

The CEF, he said, “is organised around two strategic pillars: sustainable Islamic finance and private sector development. Both are central to Brunei Darussalam’s efforts to strengthen economic resilience, diversify its economy and create new opportunities for sustainable growth.”

He shared, “A defining feature is the establishment of three dedicated working groups on Islamic finance, food security, and small and medium enterprises. These groups will foster policy dialogue and knowledge exchange, identify opportunities, and develop initiatives that turn shared priorities into concrete outcomes. We look forward to working closely with the government and all relevant stakeholders to translate the Framework into meaningful development outcomes and lasting value for the people of Brunei Darussalam.”

Meanwhile, referring to an audience ceremony with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, on Tuesday afternoon, the president of the IsDB said, “I am deeply grateful to His Majesty for receiving me and for the gracious hospitality extended to my delegation and me.”

He said, “It was a privilege to seek His Majesty’s guidance on how the IsDB Group can further strengthen its partnership with Brunei Darussalam in support of the country’s long-term development aspirations and national priorities.”

He added, “I particularly value His Majesty’s guidance on where the IsDB Group can make its greatest contribution: economic transformation, diversification, private sector development, Islamic finance and sustainable growth.”

He shared, “I briefed His Majesty on the IsDB Group’s 10-Year Strategic Framework 2026-2035 and its first Five-Year Corporate Strategies 2026-2030. These priorities are closely aligned with Brunei Vision 2035, particularly in human capital development, economic diversification, Islamic finance, climate resilience and knowledge-driven growth.”

The CEF, he reiterated, “provides a practical platform for advancing this shared strategic direction and identifying opportunities for deeper cooperation. Our discussions reaffirmed our longstanding partnership and shared commitment to sustainable and inclusive development. We remain committed to working with His Majesty’s government to turn these priorities into practical initiatives that deliver meaningful outcomes for the people of Brunei Darussalam.”
