Air quality moderate across Brunei

Air quality across all four districts remained moderate on Wednesday morning, with Temburong recording the highest Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reading at 66.

The Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) recorded a PSI of 65 in Brunei-Muara, 62 in Tutong and 53 in Belait at 9am.

All readings fell within the moderate category, which ranges from 51 to 100.

JASTRe, under the Ministry of Development, said air quality reporting has included fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations in PSI readings since September 1.

The World Health Organization defines PM2.5 as fine suspended particles with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres. These particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, potentially affecting the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

During the hazy period, JASTRe provides daily PSI updates at 7am, 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm.

A PSI reading below 50 indicates good air quality, while 101 to 200 is classified as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, and above 300 as hazardous.
