Brunei, Singapore sign MoU on supply chain resilience

Brunei Darussalam and Singapore recently signed the ‘Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Supply Chain Resilience’ during the Brunei Darussalam-Singapore 2nd Joint Committee Ministerial Meeting (2nd JCMM) in Singapore to ensure stable trade flow and facilitate movement of goods across borders, especially in times of crisis.

The meeting was co-chaired by Brunei Darussalam’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin and Minister for Sustainability and Environment and Minister in-charge of Trade Relations of Singapore Grace Fu.

The 2nd JCMM serves as a follow-up to the inaugural JCMM on September 15, 2025. At the meeting, both ministers reaffirmed their support and commitment to strengthening Brunei-Singapore two-way bilateral trade and investment cooperation. Brunei and Singapore agreed that closer cooperation and forward-looking solutions remain crucial, especially for initiatives taken under the four working groups of food supply; medical products; low carbon; and carbon markets, carbon capture and storage, carbon credits and green economy.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf said he appreciates the deep and longstanding relationship between Brunei and Singapore in various areas, especially trade and investment. Through the Joint Committee platform, he noted the good progress undertaken and encouraged Brunei and Singapore to continue exploring new areas of cooperation and to ensure the work can be translated into meaningful and tangible outcomes.

Both ministers also co-chaired the 1st Agri-Tech Food Zone Ministerial Meeting (1st ATFZ MM), discussing the progress and findings of the joint feasibility study on the establishment of a Brunei Darussalam-Singapore Agri-Tech Food Zone. The study identified opportunities for Brunei Darussalam and Singapore to build on their strengths to enhance agri-food trade, strengthen food supply resilience and unlock new investment opportunities in the agri-food sector.

Both sides exchanged views on the future direction of the ATFZ, including key considerations for its development and implementation, particularly commercial viability and private sector participation.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration in advancing the initiative and realising its potential to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agri-food development and enhance food supply resilience.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Brunei Darussalam, the MoU signing serves as a testament of an enduring friendship and trust between Brunei and Singapore, and reaffirms commitments made under the Upgraded ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement.

The meeting also saw the signing of the manufacturing and distribution agreement between PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd and Singapore-owned Company Pondok Abang.

This marks yet another milestone in market access and food supply cooperation between Brunei and Singapore.
