BIBD builds momentum for Brunei’s Sukuk market with Kuala Belait roadshow

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) continued its nationwide Sukuk investor engagement series with a roadshow at V Plaza Hotel in Belait District on Thursday, bringing greater awareness and understanding of the new investment Shariah-compliant investment opportunity to potential investors in the Belait District.

The roadshow forms part of a series of investor engagement initiatives following the landmark launch of BIBD’s BND200 million Sukuk Wakalah Programme on October 5, 2026, marking Brunei Darussalam’s first corporate Sukuk Wakalah issuance and an important milestone in the continued development of the nation’s Islamic capital market.

Building on the momentum of the first roadshow held last week, the Belait District session reflects BIBD’s commitment to broadening investor outreach and ensuring that opportunities to learn about Islamic investment products extend beyond the capital to communities across Brunei Darussalam.

The session commenced with welcoming remarks by Jason Wong, Managing Director of BIBD Securities, who highlighted the significance of the landmark Sukuk issuance in expanding the range of Shariah-compliant investment opportunities available in the domestic market.

He emphasised that the Sukuk Wakalah Programme represents more than a new investment product.

It is an important step towards developing a more diverse and accessible Islamic capital market, while providing investors with additional options to manage and diversify their investment portfolios in accordance with their financial objectives.

The roadshow also featured a product presentation by Fuad Bohari, Product Development Officer, BIBDS, who provided participants with an overview of the BIBD Sukuk Wakalah Programme, its key features, underlying structure, investment considerations and the participation process through BIBD Securities.

Through its Fractional Sukuk offering, BIBD Securities enables eligible individual investors to participate in the Sukuk investment opportunity with a minimum investment of BND5,000, widening access to a Shariah-compliant corporate investment asset class that has traditionally been less accessible to retail investors in Brunei Darussalam.

The session also provided participants with an opportunity to engage directly with BIBD Securities representatives, seek clarification and gain a better understanding of the potential benefits and associated risks of Sukuk investments.

Beyond introducing the investment opportunity, the roadshow places strong emphasis on investor education and informed financial decision-making.

BIBD recognises that greater access to financial products must be accompanied by sufficient understanding of their features, risks and suitability for individual investment objectives.

By bringing these engagement sessions closer to communities, BIBD aims to encourage greater financial awareness, strengthen investor confidence and promote responsible participation in the domestic capital market.

The initiative also complements the aspirations of the Brunei Darussalam Financial Sector Blueprint 2026–2035, particularly its strategic priorities of advancing financial inclusion and literacy, deepening the financial market ecosystem and further innovating Islamic finance.

As Brunei Darussalam continues to strengthen its financial sector and diversify its economy, the development of a deeper Islamic capital market can play an increasingly important role in mobilising capital, broadening investment opportunities and providing businesses with alternative sources of funding to support long-term growth.

Through the BIBD Sukuk Wakalah Programme, BIBD seeks to contribute towards these national aspirations while demonstrating the potential of Islamic finance to support financial innovation, market development and sustainable economic progress.

The continuation of the Sukuk roadshow series also underscores BIBD’s commitment to inclusive engagement, ensuring that individuals across the country have opportunities to access relevant financial information and make informed investment decisions.

As Brunei Darussalam’s leading Islamic financial institution and a Partner in Progress, BIBD remains committed to advancing the nation’s Islamic finance ecosystem, promoting financial literacy and supporting the development of a more inclusive, diversified and resilient financial sector in line with Wawasan Brunei 2035.
