The Brunei History Centre, under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), in collaboration with the Brunei History Association (PESEBAR), organised the eighth edition of the Menyuluh Sejarah Brunei Programme 2026 at the Borneo Studies Centre in Anggerek Desa yesterday.
The programme is an academic initiative launched in 2021 by the Brunei History Centre in collaboration with PESEBAR.
It aims to provide a platform for the younger generation to share their research findings and present comprehensive, in-depth studies on the history of Brunei and Borneo.
Themed ‘Historical Sources: The Key to Understanding the Past’, the eight edition featured two young speakers who presented their research findings.
They were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hamlatul Arsy Mulia binti Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Bendahara Seri Maharaja Permaisuara Pengiran Muda Haji Sufri Bolkiah and Siti Zaviera Jayn binti Haji Julahi. Pengiran Dr Amal Bazilah binti Pengiran Haji Abdul Mobeen served as the moderator.
The programme concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony, a group photograph session and refreshments.
Through the initiative, the Brunei History Centre hoped to enhance historical knowledge and appreciation among the younger generation, while nurturing critical and analytical thinking and encouraging new discoveries in the field of history.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the MCYS Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah, the guest of honour, presented certificates to the speakers.
Directors, lecturers, officers and staff from the public and private sectors, academics, university students from local and overseas higher education institutions, as well as history enthusiasts were also present. – Lyna Mohamad
