Brunei stresses fiscal sustainability, technology-driven growth at APEC meeting

Brunei Darussalam has highlighted the importance of fiscal sustainability, regional economic resilience and technology-driven productivity as key priorities for long-term growth across the Asia-Pacific.

Minister of Finance II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah outlined the priorities during the 2026 APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting held in Hong Kong from October 20 to 21.

He emphasised the need for tailored policy advice that reflects the diverse economic structures and long-term growth challenges of economies in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

The minister identified three priority areas: strengthening regional integration and economic resilience; safeguarding macroeconomic stability and fiscal sustainability; and harnessing technology to enhance productivity and inclusive growth.

It adopted the 2026 APEC Finance Ministers’ Joint Statement and a policy statement on digital infrastructure financing across the Asia-Pacific, setting out directions for further regional financial and economic cooperation.
