Awareness raised on cybercrime threats, preventive measures

The Cybercrime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department, Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), conducted four cybercrime awareness briefings to raise awareness of cybercrime threats and preventive measures.

Led by Chief Inspector Adinin bin Haji Ahmad, the sessions were held for staff of the E-Government National Centre, TAIB Bank and the Department of Civil Aviation.

The briefings covered online scam tactics, including the modus operandi used by cybercriminals to deceive the public and employees of organisations.

It also highlighted offences involving money mules, particularly the act of providing or lending SIM cards and bank accounts to third parties for illegal purposes.

Participants were reminded that such actions could result in legal consequences and that account holders could be held accountable for any misuse of their accounts.

Participants were also briefed on the Anti-Scam Helpline 16993, which serves as a channel for verifying information and reporting suspected scam cases.

RBPF hoped that the knowledge shared will enhance participants’ awareness and vigilance against cybercrime threats, helping to prevent them from falling victim to online scams. – James Kon
