Tutong youth hone skills in azan, iqamah workshop

A workshop on the recitation of the azan and iqamah was organised to equip youth with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to fulfil the responsibilities of calling the faithful to prayer at mosques, suraus, and prayer halls across their districts and villages.

The Youth Azan and Iqamah Workshop for Tutong District was organised by the Mosque Affairs Department under the Ministry of Religious Affairs through its Youth Affairs Division, in collaboration with the Mosque Takmir Committee of the National Housing Scheme Mosque, Kampong Bukit Beruang; Sayyidina Othman Secondary School; and the Tutong District Mosque Affairs Office.

Held at the National Housing Scheme Mosque, Kampong Bukit Beruang, the programme was facilitated by Haji Daud bin Haji Kadir and attended by youth and students. The facilitator guided participants through both theoretical and practical modules covering the azan and iqamah, including tajwid rulings, makhraj, breathing control techniques, and traditional melodic modes such as Hijaz, Rast and Bayati.

Attendees also participated in practical delivery sessions and question-and-answer segments designed to reinforce their understanding and improve their skills in delivering the azan and iqamah. The initiative reflects continuous efforts to enhance the role of mosque youth as prospective community leaders and custodians of religious institutions.

Beyond imparting technical proficiency, the programme seeks to cultivate an attachment to mosques, build disciplined Muslim character, and instil an understanding of the duties entrusted to a muazzin. – Lyna Mohamad
